C. Barrett and the late Mrs. Mary Estelle Barrett of Franklin, died at his home near Suffolk on the Franklin-Suffolk Highway Sunday afternoon after an illness of four years. He was 37 years of age; was born in Franklin and had spent the greater part of his life here. He was a young man of many sterling qualities, a dutiful son, energetic and industrious and so long as health permitted active and useful in the home, his church, the Masonic order and the community generally. He was a consistent member of the Franklin Baptist church and was Worshipful Master of Franklin Lodge No. 151, A.F. & A.M. for two terms, the members of this order conducting the impressive burial service of Masonry at the graveside here. Four years ago Mr. Barrett married Miss Ida Thigpen of Franklin who survives him with a little daughter, Ida Malcolm Barrett. He is also survived by his father, R.C. Barrett of this town; two brothers, R.C. Barrett, Jr., of Suffolk and R. Sidley Barrett of Franklin; six sisters, Mrs. V.A. Brinkley, Mrs. L.C. Holland, and Mrs. S.P. Hill of Suffolk, and Mrs. Frank E. Howell, Miss Claudia Barrett and Mrs. Lavinia Rawls of Franklin, besides a large and prominent family connection and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the family burial plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery here Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock by his Pastor, Rev. R.D. Stephenson, assisted by Dr. H.J. Goodwin and Dr. W.W. Staley of Suffolk. The body bearers were Reginald Holland, F.E. Howell, Jr., Malcolm Howell, Bradford Bowden, W.O Bogart, Roger Beale, W.C. Jenkins and R.H. Jacobs. Honorary pallbearers were George Earnest, Jesse Weede, James L. Camp, Jr., Powell Eley, Herbert Beaman, W.H. Butler, W.H. Lankford, J.M. Johnson, J.A. Pretlow, Edgar Weede, G.L. Bell, F.A. Holladay, Hutson Councill, Rev. L.F. Paulette, Joe Bynum Gay, Henley Churn, W.T. Pace, J., Wayland Jones, Leland Fleetwood, Ryland Rose, Jake Soble, John Haslette, Harry Steinhardt, Ernest Evans, R.A. Pope, Robert Landford, Richard Rawls, Rob Howell, James Fowler, R.E.L. Watkins, C.J. Edwards, S.B. Savage, W.F. Adams, Charles Webb, David Prince, Dr. Burton J. Ray, J.J. Pace, Ryland Camp, John Camp, M.H. Moore, Dr. R.H. Cobb, Cr. A.P. Cutchin, Dr. O.R. Yates, W.B.
