MARK ERNEST BARRETT

MARK E. BARRETT DIES SUDDENLY THURSDAY

   Mark Barrett, well-known lumberman and farmer of Statesville, this county, 
died suddenly in Suffolk Thursday afternoon while returning with W.T. O'berry 
of Newsoms from a business trip to Norfolk.  Thinking he was suffering from 
acute indigestion, Mr. Barrett stopped at Suffolk drug store for relief, and 
was advised by Dr. C. Richardson Joyner, who attended him at the store to go 
to a hospital.  He lived only ten minutes after being admitted to Lakeview 
Hospital.

   M.E. Barrett was 59 years of age, a good citizen, energetic business man 
and a consistent member of Barnes M.E. Church.  He is survived by his wife, 
Mrs. Lina Everett Barrett, and three children, Miss Mabel Barrett of Richmond, 
Mrs. Willie Whitley and Everett Barrett of Boykins; four brothers, T.H. 
Barrett and Hugh A. Barrett of the home community, R.E. Barrett of Boykins and 
J.E. Barrett of Carrsville; two sisters, Mrs. V.D. Thorp of Statesville and 
Mrs. R.B. Bryant of the Riverdale community; a grandson, and a large family 
connection and many friends.

   Funeral services will be held this (Friday) afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from 
his home by his Pastor, Rev. J.K. Holman, and burial will be made in the 
family cemetery.
