BYRD FRANKLIN - Cyrus Oscar Byrd, 80, died yesterday. He was a member of the High Street Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Hill Byrd; a daughter Mrs. P.J. Gearing of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son Mitchell A. Byrd of Williamsburg; a sister Mrs. Earl Bell of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and three grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. tomorrow at the W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** CYRUS O. BYRD FRANKLIN - Funeral services for Cyrus Oscar Byrd will be conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the W.J.M. Holland Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert A. Fridley, pastor of High Street Methodist Church and the Rev. R.E. Brittle, pastor of the Bethlehem Christian Church. Burial will be Poplar Spring Cemetery. Mr. Byrd, 80, died Monday afternoon in his home on Third Avenue after a heart attack. He was the husband of Mrs. Margaret Hill Byrd and a son of James Robert and Mrs. Harriett Elizabeth Parker Byrd. A native of Whaleyville, he moved to Franklin in 1905 and worked at Camp Manufacturing Co., until 1951. He was a member of High Street Methodist Church. Besides his widow surviving are a daughter Mrs. P.J. Gearing of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son Mitchell A. Byrd of Williamsburg, a sister, Mrs. Earl Bell of Ft. A funeral service will be held at Holland Funeral Home at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Cyrus Oscar BYRD, formerly of Lynchburg, retired from Camp Manufacturing Co., Whaleyville native, d. 23 Nov 1964, Franklin, age 62, interred in Poplar Spring Cemetery (Section 2, Plot 18B*), Franklin, 25 Nov 1964, "The Progress-Index" (Petersburg, VA), Nov. 24, 1964 *Oscar's grave, and that of his first wife, were apparently covered by ivy when the cemetery was initially recorded. He was added to the cemetery list at the prompting of his daughter-in-law, Lois (Mrs. Mitchell) BYRD. The ivy has been trimmed back!
