MARY PEARL DARDEN BARRETT 

   Mrs. Pearl Darden Barrett, 76, died at the residence in the Statesville 
community on Saturday morning, June 28, after an illness of several months.

   Mrs. Barrett was the wife of Hugh Alexander Barrett she was the daughter 
of the late George A. [sic*] and Mrs. Juliette Worrell Darden of Southampton 
County.  She was a member of Barnes Methodist Church, serving as organist for 
many years, and of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service.  She took an 
active interest in church and community activities.

   Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Mrs. Juliette Barrett 
O’berry and Mrs. Antoionette Barrett Trew, both of Newsoms; two sons, Ralph 
B. Barrett and Hugh A. Barrett, Jr., of Newsoms; and three grandchildren.

   Services for Mrs. Barrett were conducted Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock at 
Barnes Methodist Church by the pastor, Rev. O.L. Gochenour, Rev. Everett of 
Richmond, and Rev. R. Orman Bryant, D.D., of Danville.  Burial was in Newsoms 
Cemetery.

   Active pallbearers were Harry Barrett, Rosser Bryant, Earl Caroon, Martin 
Cobb, R.E. Drake, Jr., Joe Everett, Stanley Myrick and Marshall Vick.
