Sidney Barrett, Sr., 73, a retired master mechanic for the Camp Manufacturing Co., died August 20 in Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, after a long illness. A native of Franklin, he was a son of the late Richard Crawford Barrett and Mary Estelle Powell Barrett. He was a lifelong member of the Franklin Baptist Church and a past master of the Franklin Masonic Lodge 151. Surviving members of his family are his wife, Mrs. Iva Rawles Barrett; a son, R.S. Barrett, Jr. of Yorktown; two daughters, Miss Katherine E. Barrett of Quantico and Mrs. Mansell H. Hopkins, Jr. of Blackburg; two sisters, Mrs. L.C. Holland of Suffolk and Mrs. Bene Rawls of Franklin, four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at the Franklin Baptist Church at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, with the pastor, Dr. Ira D. Hudgins, officiating, Dr. Stewart A. Newman of Wake Forest, N.C. assisted Dr. Hudgins at the graveside service in the Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were W.T. Pace, Jr., J. Edward Moyler, Sr., J.B. Johnson, S.A. Carr, Darden W. Jones, and G.E. Pillow. Honorary pallbearers included members of the Bruner Bible Class of the Franklin Baptist Church and members of the Franklin Masonic Lodge 151.
