All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ AARON SHIRLEY BRADSHAW Aaron Shirley Bradshaw, 40, a farmer of the Newsoms community, died in the Louise Obici Hospital, Suffolk, on Saturday afternoon, July 25, after an illness of several months. A member of the Newsoms Baptist Church, he was the son of Mrs. Nettie Ferguson Bradshaw of Newsoms and the late Cordie C. Bradshaw. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Boyd Britt Bradshaw, and two children, Charles Clifton Bradshaw and Miss Shirley Jane Bradshaw, all of Newsoms; two brothers, Carl L. Bradshaw of Seaboard, N.C., and Hersey C. Bradshaw of Newsoms; and four sisters, Mrs. David Sitwell of Winston-Salem, N.C., Mrs. Thornton Gibbs of Cheriton, Mrs. D.F. Watson of Hampton, and Mrs. Henry Worrell of Richmond. Mr. Bradshaw was a deacon in the Newsoms Baptist Church and superintendent of its Sunday School. He was a member also of the Newsoms Ruritan Club. Rites for Mr. Bradshaw were conducted at the Newsoms Baptist Church on Monday afternoon at 4 o’clock by Revs. W.M. Jameson and Clyde W. Glosson, both of Hampton, and N.B. Habel of Boykins. Interment was in the Newsoms Cemetery. The pallbearers were E.G. Britt, Julian L. Carter, J.L. Dail, Billy Daniels, John Wesley Drake, Ralph Porter, J.C. Story and C.L. Vick. ****************************************************************************** AARON SHIRLEY BRADSHAW Aaron Shirley Bradshaw of Newsoms was called home to meet his Lord, whom he had served so faithfully, on Saturday, July 25, after an illness of several months. Funeral services for him were held at the Newsoms Baptist Church on Monday afternoon, July 27, at 4 o’clock. Officiating ministers were Rev. Clyde W. Glosson, pastor of the Hampton Roads Baptist Church, and the Rev. Nathanial B. Habel, pastor of the Boykins Baptist Church. Interment was in the Newsoms Cemetery. Pallbearers were E.G. Britt, Julian L. Carter, J.L. Dail, Billy Daniels, John Wesley Drake, R.L. Porter, J.C. Story and C.L. Vick. Mr. Bradshaw was a member of the Newsoms Baptist Church, in which he took part in all of its activities, having been superintendent of the Sunday school for the past year, chairman of the pulpit committee, and treasurer of the building fund. Before coming to Newsoms to make his home, Mr. Bradshaw resided in Newport News, where he was a member of the Hampton Roads Baptist Church. This church he served with marked distinction [...*] and teacher of a class of intermediate boys. The members of the Newsoms Baptist Church have sustained a great loss in the passing of Mr. Bradshaw, whose many talents were consecrated to his Master’s service. No task was ever too great or too small for him to attempt for his God; yet in his gentle and cheerful manner he lived before men an example of the fullest Christian life. His many acts of kindness and his winning smile will long be remembered by those who knew him well. In his home life Mr. Bradshaw was a devoted husband and an understanding father, always putting the welfare of his family ahead of himself. Mr. Bradshaw was the son of Mrs. Nettie Ferguson Bradshaw of Newsoms and the late Cordie Clifton Bradshaw. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Boyd Britt Bradshaw, and two children, Charles Clifton Bradshaw and Miss Shirley Jane Bradshaw, all of Newsoms; two step-children, Mrs. W.T. Cathell of the Panama Canal Zone and Pvt. Dickie Britt, USMC, stationed at Parris Island, S.C.; two brothers, Carl L. Bradshaw of Seaboard, N.C., and Hersey C. Bradshaw of Newsoms; and four sisters, Mrs. David Stilwell of Winston-Salem, N.C., Mrs. Thornton Gibbs of Cheriton, Mrs. D.F. Watson of Hampton, and Mrs. Henry Worrell of Richmond.
