Bradshaw was the son of Edwin and Mary Ann White Bradshaw and was born near old Vicksville November 13, 1846. He was one of a family of six children, two of whom are still living, Charles E. Bradshaw of Norfolk and Robert M. Bradshaw of the Black Creek community. He was married January 6, 1870, to Victoria Wills and to this union two children were born. On June 7, 1874, his home was bereft of the wife and mother and in after years he was married to Mary Alice Wills, a sister of his former wife. She preceded him in death December 31, 1909. They were the parents of eleven children, six of whom are living: Mrs. W.L. Vick of Dendron, Mrs. W.D. Joyner of Windsor, W.R. Bradshaw of Norfolk, Mrs. O.J. High, M.E. and A.M. Bradshaw of Sedley. He is also survived by a son of his first marriage, Clarence Bradshaw, of Suffolk. He professed conversion and united with Black Creek Church when a young man and was of such pronounced character that he was ordained as a deacon in the church at the early age of 23. He was a leader in the Sunday school and active in all work of the church until his home was broken by the death of his wife. He removed to Sedley eight years ago and made his home with his daughter Mrs. O.J. High. He became a charter member and deacon in the Sedley Baptist church when it was organized recently. He was elected Justice of the Peace in 1904 and faithfully and impartially administered the responsibilities of that office during the remainder of his life. At the age of 22 he joined the Masons being a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 42 at Berlin. After this lodge was disbanded he joined the Courtland Lodge and was a member there at the time of his death. He had held every office in the Blue Lodge and some of them several times. He was a man of few words and admonished his children to observe his motto, which was "Look up and Live for Higher Things." On February 5, he sustained a painful accident and as a result of it passed away March 4, 1927, aged eighty years. Funeral services were conducted from Grace Memorial Church by Rev. Nathan Pickett, Rev. R.P. Welch and Rev. C.C. Jones. Interment was made in the family cemetery near Sedley. The Masonic Lodge was in charge of the burial services and its members were the active and honorary body bearers.
