All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ EDWIN BRADSHAW EDWIN BRADSHAW DIES IN SOUTHAMPTON Was Oldest Man In His County and Spent Active Life Suffolk, Va., March 4 - The oldest man in Southampton County is dead. He was Edwin Bradshaw, and he was 94 years old. The deceased was not only the oldest citizen of Southampton, but the oldest Mason in the county. He was a charter member of the Berlin lodge, and when in the lapse years, that lodge failed, he transferred his membership to the lodge at Ivor. The funeral services were held today at his home at Vicksville, Southampton County, and the interment was made with Masonic honors. Mr. Bradshaw was born in Southampton in 1822, and is survived by three sons, Charles Bradshaw, A.G. Bradshaw and R.M. Bradshaw. Mr. Bradshaw remembered the Nat Turner insurrection, the Mexican war, and had seen almost every kind of modern invention and convenience come into use. He retained his vigor and strength of mind and body up to the last year of his life, and was a constant attendant on the Circuit Court of his county. I, 53rd VA Infantry 22 Apr 1861 as a private. He was WIA three times and promoted from corporal to commisary sergeant, and surrendered with LEE at Appomattox C.H.
