Bradshaw of Sedley and daughter of the late John H. and Mrs. Martha Edwards Babb died April 12, aged seventy-eight years, at the home of her son, J.J. Bradshaw, in Norfolk, with whom she had spent the most of the time since her husband’s death six years ago. She was born in Isle of Wight County, April 13, 1849, and later removed to Southampton County. At the age of 20 years she was received into membership of the Black Creek Monthly Meeting of Friends and retained this membership until she was called to join the Church Triumphant. For 30 years she was an elder in her church. At the first service held in the new meeting house of Black Creek Friends on January 1, 1872, Geneva Mildred Babb and James Madison Bradshaw [wed*]. The family then established has ever since been closely linked with the affairs of the church as well as with the interest of education in the community, being strong supporters of the Black Creek Friends School and through these means rendered invaluable service to the intellectual life of the neighborhood. Mrs. Bradshaw was a model wife and mother, great hearted, genial and unselfish in her devotion to her family and friends. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. L.D. Clark of Washington, Miss Lizzie B. Bradshaw of Sedley and Mrs. C.T. Lupton of Denver, Col., two sons, J.J. Bradshaw of Norfolk and J.C. Bradshaw of Sedley. Funeral services were held at the Friends Church, Sedley, Thursday morning at 11 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Nathan Pickett, pastor of the church. The active body bearers were: Livingston Babb, Howard Babb, Edward F. Raiford, John E. Babb, Herbert Babb, Benj. T. Babb, Chas. E. Neave, and Shelton Babb; honorary, Dr. R.L. Raiford, H.D. Raiford, Chas. W. Davis, J. Butler, W.D. Joyner, L.L. Bradshaw, Wm. G. Raiford, J.R. Dunning, J.T. Butler and E.W. Raiford. Interment was made in the family cemetery near Corinth and as a last token of appreciation of the beautiful life she had lived and as a tribute of love she was laid to rest under a canopy of many lovely flowers.
