PETERSBURG, Oct 12-Joseph Selester Bradshaw died today in his home on Route 301, near Rives School, in Prince George County. He was a native of Southampton County but for the last 20 years lived in Prince George. He is survived by his wife, Mabel T. Bradshaw, of Prince George; one son, Joseph S. Bradshaw, Jr., of the Army, stationed in Japan; four sisters, Mrs. Gordon Grizzard, Mrs. Leroy Bryant, Mrs. Russell L.* Railey and Mrs. Willie Ellis, all of Southampton County; one brother, Berse* Bradshaw, of Southampton, and step-mother, Mrs. Ella Bradshaw, also of Southampton and several nieces and nephews. Funeral plans were incomplete tonight. Joseph Selester BRADSHAW, 20-year resident of Prince George Co., b. 2 Oct 1897**, Southampton Co., d. 12 Oct 1947, at home, near Rives School, interred in Blandford Cemetery**, Petersburg, "The Richmond (VA) Times-Dispatch," Oct. 13, 1947, p. 22 Additional information: Joseph was the son of Zollicoffer Thomas BRADSHAW (1876-1943) and his first wife Alice Elizabeth DRAKE BRADSHAW (1880-1903)- their marriage is not of record in Southampton Co. His father remarried twice- to Sarah M. DRAKE (1884-1913) {MB12:465}, then to her half-sister Ella Jane DRAKE (1869-1948). Ella remarried, to Robert Lee HOLLAND. *His father and all three wives are interred in Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms, as are two brothers and a half-sister. The Hollywood list, of the Southampton County Historical Society {SCHS} Cemetery Project, gives the brother that survived him as Claude Burse, and their sister Clara's husband as Russell Brett RAILEY.
