FRANKLIN SOLDIER KILLED IN VIETNAM - copter crash The family of Army Spec. 4 Alvis T. Barringson Jr., 21, was notified this week of his death on Oct. 17 from injuries sustained in a helicopter crash in South Vietnam. A native of Farmville, he lived here most of his life. He was the husband of Mrs. Marcia Brett Barrington and a son of Alvis T. and Mrs. Ruth Clark Barrington. He was a member of Hunterdale Christian Church. A graduate of Frederick Military Academy, he was a battalion commander in his senior year. He was active in football and basketball and other sports and was voted All-Around Cadet by the student body. He entered military service Oct. 12, 1970, and took basic training at Ft. Campbell, Ky. He had advance training at Ft. Rucker, Ala., and became a helicopter crew chief. He left for Vietnam April 30 for this year as a member of the 101st Airborne Division. Besides his widow and parents, surviving are a sister, Mrs. Joyce B. Williams of Virginia Beach, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Margaret B. Barrington of Franklin. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. ****************************************************************************** ALVIS THURMAN BARRINGTON JR. A funeral service for SP/4 Alvis Thurman "Barry" Barrington Jr., 21, was held Sunday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Allen Wentz, pastor of Murfreesboro United Methodist Church and Dr. R.E. Brittle, pastor of Hunterdale Christian Church. Burial with full military honors was in Southampton Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Billy Whitehead, Shelton Little, Randy Drake, Jerry Rose, James Wright Jr., Buddy Whitley and Mike Hunnings. Cadets from Frederick Military Academy served in an honor guard. A native of Farmville and a 20 year resident of Franklin, he was the husband of Mrs. Marcia Brett Barrington and the son of Alvis T. and Mrs. Ruth Clark Barrington. He was a member of the Hunterdale Christian Church. A graduate of Frederick Military Academy where he served as Batallion Commander his senior year, he was very active in sports and was voted Most-All-Around Cadet by his fellow cadets.
