HELEN ELMIRA RAWLS BARNES

   FRANKLIN - Mrs. Helen Rawls Barnes, 74, died Friday in a Suffolk hospital.

   She was the widow of Jacob Brode Barnes and a daughter of Uriah and Mrs. 
Nannie Cotton Rawls.  She was a native of Isle of Wight County and a member of 
Franklin Baptist Church.

   Surviving are a son, Jacob B. Barnes Jr. of Suffolk; three daughters, Mrs. 
Albert Paul Nichols of Stanford, Conn., Mrs. Frank Kirsch of Churchland, and 
Mrs. Robert Edwards of Suffolk; four sisters, Mrs. Winston Camp of Ivor, Mrs. 
Chaffee Scarboro of Miami, Mrs. Leslie Bush of Richmond, and Mrs. W.P. Jones 
of Edenton, N.C.; three brothers, Dr. Cotton Rawls of Darien, Conn., Uriah 
Rawls, Jr. of Orange, Tex., and Spurgeon Rawls of Greensboro, N.C.; 11 
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

   A funeral service was held Sunday at 4 p.m. in Franklin Baptist Church by 
the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins.  Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery.

   Pallbearers were D.A. Gooden, Charlie Corbitt, Linwood Kirkland, Micheal 
Kirsch, Frank Kirsch, W.C. Woodard and Paul Nichols.
