All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ HENRY THOMAS BARNES Henry Thomas Barnes, 88, one of Southampton County’s oldest citizens, died Saturday afternoon, September 9, at the home near Handsom of his son, Robert L. Barnes. He had been in failing health for some years. The deceased was the son of the late Charles and Mary Holt Barnes of this county. He was twice married, first to the late Mrs. Betty Story of Newsoms, and then to Mrs. Corry Vick, also of Newsoms, who died some years ago. He was a member of the Newsoms Baptist Church. In addition to his son he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Rosa Taylor of Franklin, Mrs. Claude Drake and Mrs. Jennie Drake, both of Newsoms, and Mrs. Betty Sue Bryant of Boykins; and 11 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Newsoms Baptist Church on Monday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, with Rev. R. L. Chadwick officiating. Burial was in the Newsoms Cemetery.
