Barnes, 78*, died Thursday. Funeral 2:30 p.m. Sunday Joyner Methodist Church, burial Capron Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** JOSEPH EDWARD BARNES, SR. JOYNER - Joseph Edward Barnes, Sr., 70, prominent farmer of the community, died in a Richmond hospital on Thursday night, June 12, after an illness of several weeks. A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of Mrs. Carrie Lee Bryant Barnes and son of the late Henry and Mrs. Annie Pope Barnes. Surviving are his wife; eight sons, James E., Floyd L. and Paul C. Barnes, all of Capron, Waverly W. and Herman L. Barnes, both of Yale, Sam B. Barnes of Jarratt, Lonnie G. Barnes, Petersburg, Shelton L. Barnes of Joyner; 19 grandchildren; a brother, David R. Barnes of Jackson, N.C.; and two sisters, Mrs. Zuline Grizzard of Emporia and Mrs. Lola Wilson of Norfolk. Funeral services for Mr. Barnes were conducted at Joyner Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by Rev. David S. Willis, pastor of the church. Burial was in Capron Cemetery. Pallbearers were H.L. Bain, Sr., Edward Banty, Paul Dunn, Robert Dunn, Jr., Ryland Dunn and C.B. Pope.
