Mr. Barnes, the son of the late George W. Barnes and Mrs. Sarah Williams Barnes, had made his home in Franklin for about 22 years, and was working in the Norfolk Navy Yard. He was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and of Franklin Lodge A.F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Helen Rawls Barnes, a daughter of the late Uriah Rawls and Mrs. Nannie E. Rawls of Franklin; by one son, J.B. Barnes, Jr., of Newport News; three daughters, Mrs. Albert Nichols of Stamford, Conn., Mrs. Frank B. Kirsch, Jr., of Portsmouth, and Miss Helen Rawls Barnes of this town; by two grandchildren, Frank B. Kirsch, 3rd, and Nancy Kirsch of Portsmouth; two brothers, J.H. Barnes of Boykins and G. Dallas Barnes of Severn, N.C., and by three sisters, Mrs. Alice Ferguson of Suffolk, Mrs. I.J. Jones of Carrsville and Mrs. W.L. Beale of Portsmouth. Funeral services were conducted from his late residence Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 by his pastor, Rev. R.D. Stephenson, assisted by the Rev. E.Y. Averett of Severn, N.C. There were many handsome floral tributes and a large attendance of friends. Burial was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery with the following pallbearers: L.B. Norfleet, Roy Edwards, S.W. Lankford, J. Letcher Eley, Earl Blankenship of Franklin, Irvin Ferguson of Suffolk, Prof. Leslie E. Bush of Richmond and Ralph Barnes of Severn.
