KATIE LUCY BARNES BARNES 

   Mrs. Katie Lucy Barnes, 76, a well-known resident of the Newsoms community, 
died at the home on Wednesday morning, April 16, after an illness of several 
months.

   The deceased was the wife of Robert Lee Barnes and the daughter of the late 
Frank and Nancy Phelps Barnes of Southampton County.  She was a member of 
Newsoms Baptist Church, in the activities of which she took an interested part.

   Besides her husband she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lula Bryan of 
Richmond and Mrs. Sarah Barnes of Handsom; and a number of nieces and nephews.

   Funeral services for Mrs. Barnes were held from the Newsoms Baptist Church 
on Friday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock by Rev. L.F. Smith, pastor of the church. 
Burial was in Newsoms Cemetery.

   Active pallbearers were Claude Drake, Jr., George T. Drake, Lonnie Gray, 
Otis Gray, Walter Gray and Wayne Pixley.
