All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ NELL ROSE BRANCH TOWN IS SADDENED BY YOUNG MOTHER’S DEATH After an illness which her physicians regarded from the outset as practically hopeless, Mrs. Nell Rose Branch, wife of R.C. Branch, Jr.*, died at 9:15 o’clock Tuesday morning in Raiford Memorial Hospital. Her condition had been desperate for about ten days, but her will to live had postponed the inevitable end. At the time of her death she was thirty-one years of age. Mrs. Branch a native of Franklin, was the daughter of Mrs. Annie Laurie Rose and the late C. Ryland Rose of Franklin. She was educated in the Franklin schools, graduated from the high school in May, 1933. An active member of the Franklin Baptist Church, she served in the primary department of the Sunday school and participated in the activities of the Stephenson Circle of the Woman’s Missionary Society. Besides her husband and mother she is survived by a son, R.C. Branch, 3rd, and an infant daughter, Ellen Nell Branch; two sisters, Mrs. C.H. Smith of Richmond and Mrs. Leary S. Appleby of New London, Conn.; a number of other relatives and a host of friends who mourn their loss. Funeral services for Mrs. Branch were conducted from the Franklin Baptist Church on Wednesday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. Randolph Gregory, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Portsmouth, a former pastor. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The pallbearers were William Bradshaw, Herbert Edwards, Winston Browne, Sam Powell, Vernon Scott, J.E. Wright, David Lawrence and J. Fenton Matthews. Active pallbearers were Frank Howell, Herman Howell, Carl Steinhardt, E.K. Brinkley and E.P. Jones of Franklin, and R.T. Tompkins, J.S.
