ROSA A. KITCHEN BARNES 

   Mrs. Rosa Kitchen Barnes, 72, of Newsoms died in a Richmond hospital on 
Friday night, January 9.  The widow of William David Barnes, she had been in 
ill health for many months.

   She is survived by two sons, Sgt. Southgate L. Barnes, AUS, Montreat, 
Calif., and William D. Barnes of Portsmouth; four daughters, Mrs. F.M. Barkley 
of Boykins, Mrs. Kulon E. Yelverton of Portsmouth, Mrs. Lyna B. Duke of 
Courtland, and Mrs. R.G. Carter of Newsoms; a sister, Mrs. Hattie Bryant of 
Newsoms; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services were held at the grave in Newsoms cemetery at 2:30 o’clock 
Sunday afternoon, with Rev. W.C. Hughes, pastor of the Baptist Church, 
officiating.  Active pallbearers were Jack Bunn, James T. Story, Jr., Kulon 
Yelverton, Rupert Carter, Lester Williams, Frank Davis, Jr., Hugh Ferguson, 
and Edd Barkley.
