All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Gladys Bryant Dies At Courtland Home Miss Gladys Bryant, aged 14, daughter of G.L. and Mrs. Elsie Rowe Bryant of Courtland died at her home November 7 after several months illness. The funeral services were conducted from her home November 8 and she was buried in the family plot by the side of her father. Miss Bryant had been under a doctor's care for several months and until about two weeks ago her illness was not considered serious. She was moved to Petersburg hospital and later to Memorial hospital in Richmond and returned to her home November 2. Miss Bryant is survived by her mother; one brother, G.L. Bryant, Jr.; three sisters, Eugenia, Eleanor and Alice Lee Bryant. She was the niece of Mrs. Bettie Whitehead, Mrs. Riddick Wells, C.H. and J. Tom Rowe, of Sebrell, Mrs. A.B. Cobb and M.R. Bryant of Courtland, Mrs. G.C. Kirkland of Storys, J.N. Rowe, of Petersburg and J.W. Bryant of Suffolk. Miss Bryant was in her Sophomore year at the Courtland High School. ****************************************************************************** GLADYS ROWE BRYANT Gladys Rowe Bryant, 14-year old daughter of Mrs. Elsie Rowe Bryant and the late G.L. Bryant, died at her home near Courtland Monday, November 7, after a brief illness. Her lovable character and amiable disposition won for her many friends, both young and old, who sorrow with the members of her family in their grief. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. G.L. Bryant, one brother, Leroy Bryant; three sisters, Eleanor Bryant and Alice Lee Bryant of Courtland and Miss Eugenia Bryant of Richmond, besides a number of uncles and aunts. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock by her Pastor, Rev. H.F. Turner of the Courtland M.E. Church, assisted by Rev. Gordon L. Price of the Baptist Church. Interment was made in the family burying ground. Active pallbearers were: Hugh Williams, Oscar Branch, Holt Brantley, Wesley Bryant, Joe Jordan, Elton Whitehead, W.L. Whitehead and Gillette Bryant. Her schoolmates attended in a body and acted as flower bearers covering the mound with many beautiful flowers. Gladys Rowe BRYANT, daughter of George Linwood & M.
