BRANTLEY Funeral services for Herbert Lee Brantley, 84, of Franklin, who died Friday morning, April 5, were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home by Rev. Joe French, pastor of Hunterdale Congregational Christian Church, assisted by Rev. Melvin Dollar, pastor of Rosemont Congregational Christian Church, South Norfolk. Mr. Brantley, a well known farmer of the Hunterdale community, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edgar Blythe, after an illness of several years. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Pattie Holcombe Brantley, and the son of the late Allen and Diza Slade Brantley of Southampton County. He was a member of the Nottoway Chapel (Methodist), where he served for a number of years. In addition to his daughter, he is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Burial was in the Holcombe family cemetery near Courtland, and active pallbearers were Carey Blythe, Caliborne Wilson, Marvin Holcombe, J.G. Joyner, Jr., Herman Scott, Larry Overby, Robert Hollowell and Harold Whitney.
