All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ HERBERT ASHTON BRYANT Herbert Ashton Bryant, aged 47, a lifelong resident of Southampton County, died Sunday morning at the Tidewater Victory Memorial Hospital, in Princes Anne County, after a lingering illness. Mr. Bryant was born near Courtland in 1891. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bailey Bryant of Southampton County and was well known throughout the community. He had been in bad health for many years. Mr. Bryant is survived by one sister, Mrs. P.A Davis of Courtland; three brothers, John Bryant of Petersburg, Fenton Bryant of Black Creek and Edward Bryant of Newsoms; one uncle, John T. Whitehead, of Courtland; three nieces, three nephews and quite a number of cousins. The choir of Vincent Grove Methodist Church sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." The service were conducted by Rev. Clifford Ramsey of Capron. Active pallbearers were: Sam Whitehead, S.A. Whitehead, Jr., Lutie Whitehead, Joseph Whitehead, Reginald Whitehead, Charlie Baugham, Herman Worrell and Robert Worrell. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family.
