He was the son of the late Albert D. and Lydia W. Bryant and was a lifelong resident of Southampton County. Surviving are his wife who was Miss Sallie Edwards of Prince George County; five sons, J.S. Jr., Willie Rives, Leslie, Raymond and James Bryant; four daughters, Misses Pearl, Ruby Lee and Virginia Bryant and O.R. Harrell of Suffolk; three sisters, Mrs. Annie P. Ferguson and Misses Addie and Alpha Q. Bryant; one brother, Solon L. Bryant, as well as a number of other near relatives. Funeral services were conducted from the home Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock, burial being made in the Newsoms Cemetery with Rev. J.K. Holman officiating. Active pallbearers were J.T. Bryant, Percy Porter, B.A. Porter, J.Q. Worrell, Carlton Ferguson, C.C. Bradshaw, C.F. Whitfield, C.Q. Ferguson and T.C. Cutchins.
