BRYANT James Howard Bryant, 64, a well-known farmer of the Courtland community, died in the Medical College Hospital, Richmond, at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, after an illness of a few weeks. A member of Vincent Grove Methodist Church, he was a son of Benjamin Franklin and Mrs. Melissa Pope Bryant of Southampton County and the husband of Mrs. Minnie Jo Bryant of Courtland. Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Mrs. L.N. Bredhal[*] of Richmond; two grandchildren; a brother, Herbert Bryant of Driver; two sisters, Mrs. Lelia Knight of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Franklin Pope of Capron and a number of nieces and nephews. Services for Mr. Bryant were conducted Saturday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons, Franklin, by Rev. David S. Willis, pastor of Vincent Grove Methodist Church. Burial was in Vincent Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Emmett Applewhite, Emmett Barnes, Gordon Barnes, Clay Bryant, Lewis Bryant, G.S. Burgess and Dallas Johnson. His daughter's married name was Bredhal. The obituary says Dredhal. I don't think anyone but me will ever notice the error. She was a Louise Bryant who married Larry Bredhal. Louise and Larry lived in Norfolk. Both are deceased. Howard Bryant's wife Minnie Jo Bryant was the sister of my grandfather Henry Clinton Bryant. The pallbearer Clay Bryant mentioned in the obituary is my father."]
