Bryant passed away October 17, 1928, at his home near Boykins, at the age of 79 years. His health had been declining for several years following an attack of paralysis. Prior to this time he led a very active life, was a prosperous farmer and a useful citizen in the civic and religious affairs of the community. He was called many times into public service, which he gladly and faithfully rendered and was one of the founders of the Boykins Baptist church where he served as an honored deacon until his death. He was thrice married: first to Miss Mary Ricks of North Carolina, second to Miss Mary Anna Britt of Mapleton, N.C., and last to Miss Alice Wood of Norfolk, who survives him. Besides his widow he is survived by ten children: Mrs. O.W. Gray, Mrs. John R. Person, Miss Belle Bryant, E.R. Bryant, R.S. Bryant of Boykins; Oscar Bryant, Ryland Bryant and Mrs. Doris Harris of Norfolk; Otis Bryant of Waverly and Mrs. J.H. Keene of Williamsburg. He also leaves 22 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of friends. The burial service was held from the home Saturday afternoon, where many friends and relatives had assembled to pay the last respect. Rev. Frank B. Handley conducted the service and there was special music by the Boykins choirs. He was laid to rest in the family plot amid a profusion of beautiful flowers, the body bearers being: Dr. J.M. Bland, H.A. Moore, S.J. Myrick, B.F. Britt, T.H. Porter, W.F. McKinstry, F.M. Powell and J.W. Holland.
