All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOHN WOODWARD BRYANT John Woodward Bryant, 64, prominent farmer of the Sunbeam community, died at his home early Tuesday morning, March 9, after an illness of more than two years. He was the son of the late Nathaniel Davis Bryant and Mrs. Eva Woodward Bryant, and is survived by his wife, Eva Foushee Bryant. Other survivors are two sons, John W. Bryant, Jr., and Benjamin James Bryant, both of Handsom; two daughters, Mrs. George R. Prince of Newsoms and Mrs. W.C. Crockett of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren, Bernice Bryant Crockett, Camilla Anne Bryant, Bettie Bryant and George R. Prince, Jr.; one sister, Mrs. S.S. Bishop, and one brother, L.L. Bryant, both of Handsom; an aunt, Mrs. Bettie Bryant Flippen of Covington, Tenn.; and a large family connection throughout this section and in New Kent County. Mr. Bryant spent his whole life on the same plantation on which he was born, and had a host of friends in his community. Since childhood he had been an active member of Mt. Horeb Methodist Church, and for many years had served the church on the Board of Stewards and in other capacities. Funeral services were conducted from the church at three o’clock Thursday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. John W. Morrison, followed by burial in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. The active pallbearers were J.C. Story, J.D. Riddick, Jr., Julian Stephenson, V.K. Daughtrey, Jr., Harry Fowler, J.R. Hart, J.S. Bryant, S.E. Porter, and J.R. Railey. ****************************************************************************** JOHN W. BRYANT BURIED THURSDAY Funeral services for John Woodward Bryant, who died Tuesday, March 9, were held from Mt. Horeb Methodist Church on Thursday afternoon at three o’clock by his pastor, Rev. J.W. Morrison, assisted by Rev. R.H. Marks of Capron, a former pastor. The church choir sang "How Firm A Foundation;" and a quartet composed of Rev. Mr. Morrison, H. McDonald Spiers, H.A. Barrett and R.B. Bryant, Jr., sang "No Night There," accompanied by Mrs. Earl Bryant at the piano. "In The Sweet Bye and Bye" was sung by the quartet at the cemetery. The casket was covered with a pall of carnations, roses and ferns. There were many other lovely floral pieces, these and the large crowd of friends and relatives present attesting to the esteem in which the deceased was held. Active pallbearers were J.C. Story, J.D. Riddick, Jr., V.K. Daughtrey, Jr., R.B. Story, Jr., Julian Stephenson, Harry Fowler, J.S. Bryant and Roswell Hart. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. John Woodward BRYANT, farmer, b.
