Bryant of Waverly, formerly of this town and county, died at the home of her parents Monday after a three-day illness of pneumonia. Young Miss Bryant was a bright and attractive girl numbering many friends, a consistent member of Waverly Baptist Church and of its junior missionary organizations and a high school student of much promise. The body was brought to the Holland Funeral Home here and rites were held at the graveside in Poplar Spring Cemetery Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock, conducted by her Pastor Rev. A.B. Harrell of Waverly, assisted by Rev. J.W. Morrison of Waverly, Dr. H.J. Goodwin of Suffolk, Rev. F.L. Baker of Newsoms and Rev. R.D. Stephenson. The pallbearers were boys from her class in the Waverly High School, girls of the same class acting as flower bearers. A pall of Madonna lilies and red roses draped the casket, and there was an unusually large gathering of friends from Waverly, Suffolk and many points in this county. Mrs. F.E. Howell, Mrs. Hayes Holland, Edgar Weede and E.K. Brinkley sang "Asleep in Jesus," and Dr. Goodwin read the hymn, "How Firm a Foundation." She is survived by her parents, a brother, John Edward Bryant, Jr., of Waverly, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Story of Courtland and Mrs. W.E. Bryant of Statesville.
