BRYANT A telegram received here Wednesday night announced the sudden death of Mrs. M.L. Bryant at the Monson House, St. Augustine, Fla. Mrs. Bryant and her daughter, Miss Antionette Bryant, left Franklin January 16th to spend the remainder of the winter in St. Augustine, as has been their custom for several years, and although Mrs. Bryant had been quite feeble for some time before her departure for Florida, she had expressed the hope to friends that the change would be beneficial and restore her to her usual health. Mrs. Bryant was one of those delightful characters who impressed everyone with her abundant faith in God, her radiant spirit of cheerful optimism and her sincere and unfailing interest in the welfare of her neighbors. Her presence made the town a more pleasant place to live in; her good deeds and kind words increased one’s faith in the life of the true Christian as exemplified by her, and although she had attained to the full three score years and ten allotted for a human life, and was unafraid when the final summons came, we cannot help but feel that we can ill afford to lose the presence and influence of such a lovable and useful Christian life. Mrs. Bryant was Miss Mary Louise Nutt of Northumberland County, Va., and was the second wife of Capt. James DeBerry Bryant, one of the county’s most prominent citizens in his time. She leaves three children; Mr. R.M. Bryant of Kinston, N.C., Mrs. Jesse A. Jackson and Miss Antionette Bryant of Franklin, and a step-son, Mr. N.B. Bryant of Stony Creek, Va. Mrs. Littleton Gay and Dr. James Fenton Bryant, both deceased, were step-children of Mrs. Bryant also. Mrs. Bryant was a charter member of the Franklin M.E. Church, and was one of its most faithful and consistent members. The body of our beloved townswoman is expected to arrive here Friday morning on the 7:45 Seaboard train and the interment will take place in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery Friday afternoon at an hour to be announced later. The services will be conducted by Rev. C.E. Blankenship, Pastor of the Methodist Church. The sympathy of everyone goes out to the sorrowing family in the hour of sore bereavement.
