He had been ill several months. He was the son of James Davis and Hattie Kitchen Bryant of Newsoms and is survived by two daughters, Miss Faye Haddley Bryant of Norfolk and Mrs. Francis Marn Credle, of Portsmouth; one son, Corp. Wilbur Lee Bryant, U.S.A.A.F. stationed in Italy; one grand-daughter, Pricilla Mae Bryant of Norfolk, one brother, Claude B. "Shorty" Bryant of Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. Jack Bunn of Newsoms and Mrs. Herman Bradshaw of Portsmouth. Funeral rites were conducted at the grave Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock by his pastor, Rev. R.W. Wells, assisted by the pastor of Newsoms Methodist Church, Rev. John W. Morrison, burial taking place in the family plot in Newsoms cemetery. The choir sang "Asleep In Jesus" and Joel Cook Holland sang "Sunrise." The active pallbearers were: David Lankford, Jr., and Romie Holland of Franklin, Kent Miles of Pendleton, N.C., Lloyd Vick of Portsmouth, and Bennie Bunn, Hugh Ferguson, Ralph Porter and Earnest Coggsdale of Newsoms. Honorary pallbearers were members of his Sunday school class.
