Brewer, age 76, who died March 30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G.W. Jenkins, 907 Vance St., were held at the home Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. F.W. Haynie. Mrs. Brewer passed away after an illness of three weeks. Interment was made at Mt. Hope [sic; Horeb] Church Cemetery, Franklin, Va. Mrs. Brewer was a resident of this city eleven years and is survived by seven children, Mrs. G.W. Jenkins, Z.T. Brewer, Harvey Brewer, Roanoke Rapids, Mrs. R.G. Laine, Petersburg, Mrs. Bennie Story, Suffolk, Mrs. Jim Griffin and Mrs. Herman Story, Franklin; also twenty-eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren survive. A large number of relatives and friends of this city attended the funeral. ****************************************************************************** HANDSOM NEWS AND SOCIAL PARAGRAPHS [...] Mrs. Anna May [sic; Mary Anna] Brewer Funeral services for Mrs. Anna May Brewer, age 76, whose death occurred March 31 [sic], at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alice Jenkins, of Roanoke Rapids, were conducted at the grave at Mt. Horeb M.E. Church on Saturday, April 1, by the Rev. Mr. Price of Roanoke Rapids and Rev. C.F. Moseley. There was a large attendance and many lovely floral offerings. The casket was covered with a cluster of pink carnations, Easter lilies and fern. She is survived by two sons, Z.T. and J.H. Brewer of Roanoke Rapids; five daughters, Mrs. Virgie Lane [sic; Laine] of Petersburg, Mrs. Nellie Lee Griffin and Mrs. Lizzie Story of Handsom, Mrs. Alice Jenkins of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Mrs. Essie Story of Cypress Chapel; a number of nieces and nephews; 27 grandchildren. Granddaughters of the deceased were flower bearers. During the services "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer" was sung.
