COBB Mr. A.F. Cobb, one of our county's most prominent and esteemed citizens, died at his home in Ivor, Wednesday, February 18, at 5 o'clock p.m., in his seventieth year. He was familiarly known to acquaintances everywhere as "Tony" Cobb and numbered a wide circle of warm, personal friends who admired and esteemed him for his exceptional integrity of character and his conscientious performance of duty. He was true to every obligation in life, his family, his fellowman, his church and his God. Mr. Cobb was born in the neighborhood of Trinity Church, this county, and was a faithful member of Trinity for many years, recently moving his membership to the Ivor M.E. Church. He was a brother of the late R. Henry Cobb of this town, a well-known citizen and former postmaster here. He is also survived by an older brother, Mr. W.R. L. Cobb of Sebrell, the latter serving in the Confederate armies throughout the Civil War. He held the office of Commissioner of Revenue in District No. 1 of this county for sixteen years from 1899 to 1915, filling that responsible position with credit to himself and to general satisfaction of the county authorities and tax-payers. It will be remembered that upon his retirement from that office in 1915, his son, the late Herman Cobb of Franklin, was elected by a large and flattering vote to succeed his father, but died in January 1916, just on the eve of assuming office. The members of his immediate family surviving him are his widow, who was a Miss Joyner of Hertford County, N.C.; one son Thomas Cobb of Crewe, Va.; three daughters, Mrs. Burke Crowder of Petersburg, Mrs. W.C. Rawls and Mrs. Robert Rawls of Ivor. Besides his brother, Mr. W.R.L. Cobb, he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Hurley Joyner of Sedley and Mrs. R.H. Brittle of Ivor. The burial services were conducted from his late residence in Ivor this (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock, interment being made in the Ivor cemetery.
