All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ALFRED FRANK COBB Alfred Cobb, 48, a native and lifelong resident of the Franklin community, died suddenly of heart attack last Saturday night about 9:45 as he was talking at the R.C. Councill Service Station on the corner of Main Street and Fourth Avenue. Mr. Cobb had been employed at the Newport News shipbuilding yards for several weeks. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. The son of the late T. Wade and Florence Parker Cobb, he is survived by two brothers, Clarence J. and H.G. Cobb of Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. Sallie Drinkard of Lynchburg and Miss Florence Cobb of the community, besides several nieces and nephews. Services were conducted from Sycamore Church Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock by his pastor, the Rev. John B. Isom, assisted by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson. The choir of the church sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Abide with Me." There were many lovely floral tributes. Friends of the family were honorary pallbearers and active bearers were: W.R. Atkinson, W.T. Pace, Jr., Winston M. Browne, Willie Cotton, J.A. Johnson, Clayton Cobb, T.L. Parker, and R.C. Councill. Burial was made in Sycamore Cemetery.
