All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ALLEN BERNARD COBB Allen Bernie Cobb, 75, retired merchant of Courtland, died at his residence early Wednesday morning, July 6, after being in ill health for over a year. Mr. Cobb moved to Courtland in 1900 and was associated with the E. Whitfield Company, and in 1915 went into the furniture and funeral directing business, retiring from this business in 1939. At the time of his death he was employed by the Tidewater Automobile Association and the Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company. He was the son of the late Virginius Hunter and Sallie Davis Cobb of Southampton County and was the husband of Mrs. Sallie Bryant Cobb of Courtland. Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Cobb Butler of Franklin; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. L.O. Crutchfield of Boykins and Mrs. Lizzie Cobb Newsome of Emporia. Funeral services were conducted from the residence this (Thursday) afternoon at 4 o’clock by Rev. C.A. McCormick, Jr., pastor of the Courtland Methodist Church, and Rev. L.M. Kanipe, pastor of the Courtland Baptist Church. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland.
