Herman Cobb died at his home in High street, at five o'clock Tuesday evening, Jan. 11, 1916, in his 37 year. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Cobb of Southampton county. Besides his father and mother he leaves a wife, who was Miss Mary Story of Franklin, one son and one daughter, one brother and three sisters. The end came after ten days illness with pneumonia. The deceased came to Franklin about twenty years ago to attend school and after finishing his school work, he accepted a position in the Franklin Post Office, where he remained for four years. He was with R. Henry Cobb for six years in the clothing business. Since 1905 he has been with the Franklin Drug Company in which he held an interest. He was elected Commissioner of Revenue for District No. 1, in Southampton county at the last election, to succeed his father, who had declined re-election. He had recently entered upon his duties as Commissioner. It can be said of him, that as a school boy, business man, citizen and Christian gentleman, he stood "four-square". He was a quiet unassuming man, and was liked by all who knew him. He was never heard to say an unkind work about anyone and always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Few men have been so much appreciated by the young men as he was. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, Woodman of the World and Royal Arcanum. The funeral services were conducted from the Baptist church, of which he was a consistent member, Thursday at 3:30 p.m. by Rev. J.L. McCutcheon, pastor of the Baptist church, assisted by Rev. R.M. Chandler of the M.E. church and Dr. C.H. Rowland of the Christian church. The pallbearers being; active, Dr. W.H. Author [sic; Arthur], J.N. Bell, George B. Vick, J.F. Bryant, W.O. Bristow, W.H.
