Cobb died at his home in the Franklin community Wednesday morning, August 22, in his 83th year, following an illness of several months. Mr. Cobb was the son of the late Madison Cobb and Mrs. Edith March Cobb of this county. In December, 1873, he married Miss Kathleen Matilda Gardner* who died 20 years ago, and in April, 1918, was married to Miss Anna Gardner who survives him. Besides his wife he is survived by four children of his first marriage, Walter, Charlie and Percy Cobb and Mrs. Fannie Cobb Gardner; a sister, Mrs. Paul Douglas Camp; one brother, Thomas M. Cobb; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of Franklin. Funeral services were held from Sycamore Baptist Church where Mr. Cobb had been a member for 38 years Thursday afternoon at 3:30, conducted by Rev. Kenneth E. Burke of Norfolk, a former pastor at Sycamore. During the service Joel Cook Holland sang "The Christian's Goodnight" and a quartette composed of Mr. Holland, Mrs. G.E. Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Darden sang "Going Down the Valley," "Lord I'm Coming Home" and "I Want to be There, Don't You?" accompanied by J. Edgar Weede. Active pallbearers were Junius Cobb, J.P. Cobb, Fenton Cobb, Gardner Cobb, John M. Camp, Dr. P.D. Camp, Dr. E.A. de Bordenave and J.C. Daughtrey. The honorary bearers were Tom and Jim Atkins, Hunter, Bennie and Rochelle Darden, Clayton and Linwood Cobb, Eddie and Lee Vaughan, Tyler Edwards, R.A. Peters and M.H. Moore. Interment was made in the family plot in the church cemetery, the casket being covered with a pall of lilies, lavender and white asters.
