All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ THOMAS MADISON COBB Thomas Madison Cobb, well-known farmer of the Franklin community, died at his home near Franklin September 17, 1938, in his 76th year. Mr. Cobb was born May 1, 1863, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Madison Cobb, and was the only brother of the late Mrs. Ella Virginia Camp, who died last week. A native of Franklin community, Mr. Cobb spent his entire life at the old Cobb homestead, where he was born and died. He was a member of the Bethany Christian Church until that congregation disbanded, then moved his membership to the Franklin Christian Church. On May 2, 1894, Mr. Cobb was married to Miss Nina J. Holland who survives him with two children, Clayton T. Cobb and Mrs. T. Hayes Holland, both of Franklin, and two grandchildren, Page and Bobby Cobb. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral rites were conducted from the home Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock by his pastor, Dr. Elwood W. Jones, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson. The choir of the Christian Church singing the hymns, "Rock of Ages" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." A pall of white and purple aster, red roses and lilies covered the casket. Burial was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the active pallbearers being Harry Steinhardt, J.C. Daughtrey, J.A. Johnson, Percy Cobb, Alfred Cobb, John M. Camp, Marion Ballard and Tyler Edwards.
