Cook Franklin - Eugene Linwood Cook, 80, went to be with his Heavenly Father May 7, 2012. He was born in Ivor, Va. on October 22, 1931 and was the son of the late Linwood "Pat" and Annie Mae Raiford Cook. He was predeceased by his brother, Franklin R. Cook. Eugene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marian Bulls Cook; three daughters, Deborah C. Switzer (Terrell) and Kaye C. Daughtrey (Spencer) all of Ivor, Va. and Cindy C. Kaye (Richard) of Suffolk, Va.; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Daughtrey (fiancée Chessie Guin) of Ivor, Va., Mark Switzer (fiancée Kayla Uram) of Fircrest, Wash., Amanda Switzer of Chesapeake, Va., Jessica Aranda of New York, N.Y., Kristin Aranda and Joey Aranda, both of Suffolk, Va. and Aaron Aranda of Jacksonville, N.C.; great-granddaughter, Samantha Daughtrey; twin sister, Eunice C. Parks of Norfolk, Va.; sister-in-law, Emily Lankford of Carrsville, Va.; brother-in-law, Chesley Bulls (Judy) of Zuni, Va.; numerous nieces and nephews; foster sisters, Judy Crumpler of Zuni, Va. and Joyce Alderman of Courtland, Va. Eugene was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church for over 60 years. He loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing his faith and serving in many church capacities especially teaching Sunday school, serving as a deacon and ministering to the homebound. He will be remembered for his many acts of kindness and compassion towards his neighbors and community. Eugene served his country in the United States Army for 33 years and retired as 1st Sergeant in 1983. During two years of active duty in the Korean War, he was awarded the Silver Star for his gallantry in action on Pork Chop Hill. He retired from Union Camp in 1993 after 37 years as a welder. He was a charter member of Black Creek-Burdette Ruritan Club that he helped establish in 1955. He was a member of Woodmen of the World, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 9382, the American Military Retirees Association, the Senior Circle of Southampton Memorial Hospital and the United Steel Workers. He dearly loved his family, his church, his country and faithfully loved God above all else. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Black Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Kitts and the Rev. Willis Switzer officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends today (Wednesday) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home and suggests that memorials be made to Black Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 34163 Vicksville Rd., Franklin, VA 23851. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
