Newsoms - Funeral services for George T. Cooke, Jr., 73, were held Monday in Newsoms cemetery by the Revs. Kenneth Williams and Arthur Green. Cooke died Saturday in a Norfolk hospital. A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of Mrs. Clio M. Cooke. He was a retired postmaster in Newsoms and was a member of the Newsoms Baptist Church. Other survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Eunice Holloman and Mrs. Louise Bradshaw of Newsoms and Mrs. Blount Cobb of Warsaw; two brothers, W.T. Cooke of Portsmouth, and Raymond Cooke of Denver, Col. George T. COOKE, Jr., retired Newsoms postmaster, Southampton Co. native, d. 13 Sep 1980, Norfolk, age 73, interred in Hollywood Cemetery*, Newsoms, 15 Sep 1980, "The Tidewater News" (Franklin, VA), Sep. 18, 1980, p. 13A *His parents & paternal grandparents are also buried there.
