Railroad Ave., died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Mr. Cook was born in Clear Fork, W.Va., one of nine children of the late Robert C. and Bertha Shannon Cook. He was a retired welder and pipefitter and a member of UA Local 110 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He was a member of Newsoms Baptist Church and a faithful member of the Men's Bible Class. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Taylor Cook; four daughters, Marian C. Gray and her husband, Kenneth, of Smithfield, Va., Carolyn C. Shannonhouse and her husband, David, of Cary, N.C., Vickie C. O'Berry, and her husband, Jimmie, of Franklin and Deborah C. Ashburn and her husband, Robert, of Suffolk; a sister, Rosalee C. Dixon of Clearwater, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Kevin and Craig Gray, Alison Shannonhouse, Shannon and Holly O'Berry, Wade and Brian Ashburn; three great-grandsons, Hunter, David and Mitchell Gray; and a dear sister-in-law, Norene U. Taylor of Gates, N.C. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Newsoms Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis R. Faison officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and suggests that memorial donations be made to Newsoms Baptist Church, P.O. Box 312, Newsoms , VA 23874 or to Boykins Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 347, Boykins, VA 23827.
