Born in Southampton County, he was a son of James and Mrs. Mildred Vaughan Coggsdale. He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and received his early schooling at Franklin Military Academy. For many years he worked for Camp Manufacturing Co. as clerk and stenographer. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Sadie Murray Coggsdale, and one son, James Ernest Coggsdale, both of Franklin. A funeral service was held at Holland Chapel Sunday at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Tucker Humphries, pastor of Franklin Congregational Christian Church, and the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor of Franklin Baptist Church. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were H.L. Johnson, Jr., James Hughes, Marion Hughes, Delbro Johnson, Lee Presson and H.N. Fowler.
