All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ LAURA ALMA JOHNSON COGGSDALE Mrs. Laura Alma Coggsdale, 65, widow of John Mitchell Coggsdale of the Franklin community, died Tuesday afternoon, December 26, at Raiford Memorial Hospital after an illness of short duration. The daughter of the late James Lewis and Mrs. Fannie Worrell Johnson of Southampton County, she was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. F.L. Whitley, Mrs. Gertie L. Griffin, Mrs. J.C. Cutchin, Mrs. Mary Duck and Mrs. Gladys Babb, all of Franklin, and Mrs. Annie Brock of Sedley; three sons, John W. Coggsdale of Handsom, Jesse Coggsdale of Franklin, and James A. Coggsdale of Baltimore, Md.; 25 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Mrs. Johnnie Garris, Mrs. mary Franks, Mrs. Carrie Beale, Mrs. Corinne Mitchell, Mrs. Margaret Holland and Mrs. Maude Gardner, all of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Sarah Harrell of Norfolk; one brother, D.C. Johnson of Portsmouth; and several nephews and nieces. Services for Mrs. Coggsdale were conducted at Sycamore Baptist Church on Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. Otis L. Gilliam of Courtland, with burial in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Hunter Darden, John L. Eley, Jr., Roy Gordon, Dr. J.W. Lambdin, Harry Steinhardt, C.C. Vaughan, 3d, and Nurney Whitley.
