He was the husband of Mrs. Elsie Mae Cutchins and the son of the late James T. and Mrs. Catherine Story Cutchins. He was a farmer and a lifelong resident of Southampton County. He was a member of Newsoms Methodist Church. In addition to his widow, Mr. Cutchins is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Marvin Cooke, Miss Evelyn Cutchins and Miss Linda Cutchins of Newsoms, Mrs. William H. Harrell of Carrsville, Mrs. Mack Stith of Ivor and Mrs. Jack Mumford of Franklin; a son, Gilbert L. Cutchins of Boykins; two sisters; Mrs. W.R. Fowler of Franklin and Mrs. Meredith Barden of Suffolk; two brothers, Thomas C. Cutchins of Newsoms and James T. Cutchins, Jr., of Suffolk; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. in H.M. Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins, by Rev. B.W. Cole of Newsoms Methodist Church, and Rev. Mallory Binns of Newsoms Baptist Church. Burial was in Newsoms Cemetery.
