CUTCHIN’S DEATH ON FEB. 4 WIDELY MOURNED - FARMER AND CHURCHMAN DIES WEDNESDAY NIGHT; HAD BEEN IN ILL HEALTH SEVERAL YEARS. Braxton Murray Cutchin, prominent farmer and resident of Isle of Wight County, near Franklin, died Wednesday night, February 4, in Raiford Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health for several years, but his condition had become critical only in the past few weeks. At the time of his death he was 72 years of age. Mr. Cutchin was born in Isle of Wight County at the ancestral home, "Oak Crest" on May 20, 1875. He was the son of the late Joseph J. and Jemima Ashburn Cutchin of Isle of Wight County. On November 22, 1899, he married Miss Mary Cutchin of the Franklin community. During his childhood he joined the South Quay Baptist Church, in which he grew up; and he served that church as superintendent of the Sunday school and as a Deacon for a few years before moving his membership to the Franklin Baptist Church, where he was for forty years a Deacon, being the oldest in point of service in the church. Twice he was Moderator of the Blackwater Baptist Association. Mr. Cutchin was a member of the committee of two who secured for the Franklin community the first rural mail delivery and mapped out the first routes in this section. Since the organization of the Bureau of Vital Statistics he has served as registrar in his district. He was a member of Nathaniel Bacon Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution, Holly Camp of the Woodmen of the World, the Farm Bureau, and the Farmer Club of Carrsville. Surviving him are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Casper L. Kollock and Mrs. Oscar H. Campbell of Dagsboro, Del.; three sons, Dr. Joseph Henry Cutchin and Braxton Murray Cutchins, Jr., of Easley, S.C., and William H. Cutchin of Franklin; five grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Ashley Cutchin of Franklin; a sister, Mrs. Josie Etta Cutchin of Franklin; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Cutchin will be held at noon today (Friday) at the Franklin Baptist Church, with Rev. Randolph Gregory officiating, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Cradock, a former pastor. Interment will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be A.A. Cutchin, Jr., Leonidas Cutchin, Frank Story Cutchin, A.P. Cutchin, Jr., Ernest L. Cutchin, and Lawless Cutchin. The honorary pallbearers will be the Board of Deacons of the Baptist Church and Edgar Weede, Dr. J.C. Rawls, John Rawls, Ben Councill, Harry Steinhardt, E.P. Jones, Dr. J.B. Powell, G. Ellis Pillow, Gus Edwards, Truman Campbell, E.P. Willson, and H.G.
