Cutchins of this town, died at her home in North High Street, Franklin, Wednesday morning, July 30, after an illness of about six weeks. Mrs. Cutchins was an estimable woman numbering many friends in the town and community, and was known and loved by her neighbors as an exemplary Christian character possessing many admirable traits which had greatly endeared her to the people of this town during her residence of 25 years here. Mrs. Cutchins was Miss Lelia Armstrong of Culpeper, Va., member of a prominent family of that town, and in 1885 married Cornelius A. Cutchins of Nansemond County, who died here in 1923. They moved from Nansemond County to Franklin in 1905, Mr. Cutchins being a successful merchant here for many years. She is survived by two sons, Clifford A. Cutchins, Jr., and Samuel B. Cutchins; by two daughters, Misses Zula and Fannie Cutchins; by three grandchildren, Clifford, Sarah Keith and Katherine Cutchins, and by two sisters, Mrs. Pierre Thomas and Miss Gertrude Armstrong of Culpeper. She was a useful and consistent member of the Franklin Baptist Church and active in the work of the Woman’s Missionary Society and other auxiliary organizations of the church. Funeral services from the residence yesterday afternoon at 4 o’clock were conducted by her Pastor, Rev. R.D. Stephenson, assisted by Rev. J.L. McCutcheon of Clarendon, a former pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church and an intimate friend of the family. Interment followed in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the body bearers being: Dr. J.C. Rawls, R.P. Rawls, J.O. Cutchins, Jr., J.J. Bradshaw, L.B. Norfleet, E.P. Jones, Dr. W.H. Arthur and C.C. Vaughan, III. Out-of-town relatives and friends here for the funeral included: Miss Gertrude Armstrong, Dr. and Mrs. Wright Kelley and Mrs. Tucker Chelf of Culpeper, A.A. Jordan and W.B. Tyree of Norfolk, Mrs. J.W. Hodges of Roanoke, Dr. C.J. Bradshaw of Accomac, Miss Lavita MacLean of Lynchburg, Miss Pattie Hunter of Whaleyville, Mrs. R.L. Forrest, Miss Virginia Daughtrey, Mrs. J.H. Daughtrey, Miss Roxie Robertson, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Robertson, R.J. Robertson and James M. Robertson, Jr., of Norfolk. Lelia Jackson (ARMSTRONG; Mrs. Cornelius A.)
