Cotton was conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Darden Battle and the Rev. Thomas Mabe. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were Aubrey Lankford, Ashley Vaughan, Lawless Cobb, Hunter Darden Sr., Lawrence Eley, Preston Cotton, Jessie Frank Vaughan and Claude Edwards. Cotton, 86, died early Sunday in a Southampton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Mrs. Rebah Cobb Cotton and a son of James S. and Mrs. Rosa Vaughan Cotton. A native of Southampton County, he was a retired farmer. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. Besides his widow, surviving are two sons, Russell B. Cotton and R. Howard Cotton of Franklin; a daughter, Mrs. Antoinette McClenny of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Cobb of Franklin, Mrs. Lizzie Schramn of Newport News, and Mrs. Mina Griffin of Suffolk; a brother, Pat Cotton of Franklin; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
