GLADYS PARKER CUTHRELL

   Mrs. Gladys Parker Cuthrell, age 81, of Virginia Beach, died Friday, 
May 31, 1974, in a Virginia Beach hospital after a long illness.  She 
was a native of South Hampton County, widow of William Whitehead Cuthrell, 
daughter of Claude Godwin and Mrs. Marrietta Owens Parker, was a Baptist and 
a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She is survived by two 
sons, Harvey R. Cooley of Virginia Beach and Navy Capt. Charlie B. Swayne of 
Portsmouth and a sister, Mrs. Livingston H. Babb of Ivor; six grandchildren 
and three great-grandchildren.  A graveside funeral service will be held today 
at 4 p.m. in the Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, the W.J.M. 
Holland and Son Funeral Home, Franklin, in charge.

  VIRGINIA BEACH - A funeral service for Mrs. Gladys Parker Cuthrell, 81, was 
held Monday at 4 p.m. in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins.

  The widow of William Whitehead Cuthrell, she was the daughter of Claude 
Godwin and Mrs. Marrietta Owen Parker.

  A native of Southampton County, she had lived here for five years.  She was 
a member of Daughters of American Revolution and a Baptist.

  Surviving are two sons, Harvey R. Cooley of Virginia Beach, and Retired Navy 
Capt. Charlie B. Swaine of Portsmouth; a sister, Mrs. Livingston H. Babb of 
Ivor; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

  W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home, Franklin has charge.
