Robert Wallace Cole, Jr. went down in deep water, according to Sheriff Ryland Brooks. His body was recovered about 30 minutes later with a dragline operated by S.V. Camp Jr., game warden, and F. Young Cole, just home from his first year at Elon College, lives two miles west of Courtland. He was swimming with Larry Kitchen, about the same age, who lives east of Courtland.
