LUCY PERSON CLAUD Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy Person Claud were conducted Sunday afternoon, July 21, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John U. Boykin, by the Rev. A. McK. Reynolds, pastor of the Main street Methodist Church, Emporia, and Rev. Coates of Drewryville. A mixed chorus from the choir of the Main Street Methodist Church sang "Rock of Ages" and "Abide With Me," during the service. Mrs. Claud was born in 1857 in Southampton County. She was educated at Murfreesboro College. In 1876* she married Joseph James Claud of Southampton County. She lived through the Civil War and the Spanish-American War, sent a son to Europe during the World War, and saw the beginning of the present world conflict. She accepted the great changes which came during the period of her lifetime gracefully and always lived in the present. Her gracious manner and fine character won for her many friends. Her unselfish spirit found expression in serving the less fortunate in the community in which she lived. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John U. Boykin, of Emporia, and Mrs. Hugh White of Holland; five sons, T.P. Claud, J.J. Claud, Jr., J.W. Claud of Drewryville, C.C. Claud and F.L. Claud of Marion, South Carolina; twenty-nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. J.E. Drewry of Capron, and two brothers. Active pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased; John T. Claud and Bob Claud of Drewryville, Charles Claud of Franklin, Corbell Claud and Cedric Claud and Clarence Boykin of Richmond, and Manford Claud of Kinston, North Carolina.
