A native of Southampton County, he was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the American Legion post of Emporia, World War I Barracks, Norfolk, the 29th Division Association, and Hebron Baptist Church. Besides his wife he is survived by a son, William F. Claud of Norfolk; three sisters, Mrs. H.M. DeBerry of Boykins, Mrs. R.E. Ball of Raleigh, N.C., and Mrs. C.J. Connelly of Hopewell; a brother, Dr. Harry L. Claud of Washington and four grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the home by Rev. Delphon J. Thompson, of Hebron Baptist Church. Burial was in Drewryville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lawrence Ball, Jennings Connelly, Jr., Frank Irving, Donald Murphy, Leslie Claud and Bob Claud.
