CAMP, CULTURAL LEADER OF FRANKLIN FRANKLIN - Mrs. Edith Clay Camp, the widow of William McCutcheon Camp and a women's and cultural leader of the area, died Wednesday afternoon in her home on Meadow Lane after a brief illness. A native of Selma, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Mayor Jefferson Leon Clay and Mrs. Edith West Clay. She was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and attended Hollins College and Columbia University. She was a active member of the Marion (S.C.) Church, where she and her late husband lived 18 years. He was a partner in Camp Manufacturing Co. Upon moving to Franklin, she was chairman of the Shade Tree Commission, a charter member of the Franklin Garden Club, Friends of the Library, Rufus King Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Southampton Historical Society. She is survived by two sons, William M. Camp, Jr. of Franklin and S. Clay Camp of Keswick, Va.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The body was taken to Wright Funeral Home, Franklin. A funeral will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Ira Hudgins. The family asks that flowers be omitted and memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. ****************************************************************************** Mrs. Edith C.
