Mrs. Camp, who was 77 years of age July 31, 1938, was the widow of the late Paul D. Camp, president of the Camp Manufacturing Company, and one of the town and county’s most prominent and useful citizens, who died February 5, 1924. A native of the Franklin community, Mrs. Camp was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Madison Cobb, and her name was a synonym for neighborliness and good deeds to everyone. She had been a member of Sycamore Baptist Church of this community since early childhood, which she supported liberally and actively with her presence and gifts. She is survived by eight children; P. Ryland Camp and John M. Camp, of Franklin; Mrs. Webster Upson Walker, of Bridgeport, Conn.; Mrs. W.M. Ballard of Norfolk; Mrs. Charles R. Younts, of Cranford, N.J.; Mrs. Henry M. Campbell, of Franklin; Mrs. R.F. Marks, of Boykins, and Dr. P.D. Camp, Jr., of Richmond. She leaves one brother, T.M. Cobb, who is critically ill at his home in the community. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, aa large family connection and a host of friends. Funeral services will be conducted from the residence Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock by her pastor, the Rev. Floyd P. Davis, assisted by ministers who are friends of the family Burial will be made in the family plot in Poplar Spring cemetery here. ****************************************************************************** After an illness of about two weeks, Mrs. Ella Virginia Camp, one of the best loved people of the town and community, died at her home, "The Elms," here September 9, 1938, in her 78th year. Mrs. Camp was born in the Franklin community July 31, 1861, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Madison Cobb, and on January 29, 1880, was married to P.D. Camp, president of the Camp Manufacturing Company and one of the town’s and county’s most prominent and useful citizens, Mr. Camp dying February 5, 1924. Mrs. Camp was an exemplary Christian woman, her name being a synonym for neighborliness and benevolence through the Franklin community. Their home was noted for its genuine hospitality, both Mr. and Mrs. Camp being most generous in their gifts to and support of the Baptist Church and many other worthy causes, the new Sycamore Baptist Church to which congregation they had belonged for many years, being in large part a monument to their gifts and service. She is survived by eight children; P. Ryland Camp and John M. Camp of this town, Mrs. Webster U. Walker of Bridgeport, Conn., Mrs. W.M. Ballard of Norfolk, Mrs. Charles R. Younts of Cranford, N.J., Mrs. Henry M. Campbell of Franklin, Mrs. R.F. Marks of Boykins, and Dr. P.D. Camp, Jr., of Richmond. She leaves 12 grandchildren and one brother, T.M. Funeral rites were conducted from the home Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock, the order of service being as follows: Jas. L. Camp, Jr., sang "In the Garden," Mrs. S.W. Rawls accompanying. Rev. R.D. Stephenson of the Franklin Baptist Church offered prayer. Rev. Gordon L. Price of Roanoke Rapids, a former pastor of Sycamore Church, read the scripture lesson, making a brief talk on Mrs. Camp as he had known her, and offered prayer. Mrs. Herbert Cobb and Mrs. H.M. Purviance sang "The Haven of Rest." Rev. J.R. Johnson of Galax, Va., a former Sycamore Pastor, speaking appropriately of Mrs. Camp as he had served as her pastor. Guy C. Picot of Como, a lifelong friend of the family, talked of her as Christian, neighbor and friend, and the service closed with the reading of a poem by Rev. Floyd P. Davis, pastor of Sycamore Church. Two other former pastors of Sycamore, Rev. L.F. Paulette of Smithfield and Rev. Kenneth E. Burke of Norfolk were present, besides Dr. Sparks W. Melton of Norfolk and several officers of the various mission boards of the denomination from Richmond. A beautiful pall of purple orchids, white and purple asters and Easter lilies covered the casket, there being hundreds of floral designs sent by friends, church societies and business organizations. Burial was made in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the active pallbearers being Wm. M. Camp of Marion, S.C., Jno. A. Williams, Tyler Edwards, Wharton Williams, W.O. Bristow, Jr. of Philadelphia, J.C. Williams, Jr., of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Percy Cobb and Clayton Cobb.
